Name of Company: Impact9 Energy and Marine Ltd.
Company Representatives/Founder: John Fitzgerald.
Company Location: Dublin, Ireland.
What will your company be receiving from ProtoAtlantic: Impact9 will be working with ProtoAtlantic across 3 work packages: 1. Submergence Concept Consultation, where INESC TEC experts will offer advice on aspects of control and automation; 2. Model Final Design / Procure / Build, where UCC will support Ipact9 to design and build the physical model, and; 3. Model Calibration, Test Set-up, Tests and Reporting, where UCC will support the running of the tests with Impact9.
Where Testing/Prototyping will take place: LiR National Ocean Testing Facility, Cork (Experimental Tests); INESC TEC (Automation Concept Workshop).
How will this benefit your company: Impact9 intends to use the results of physical tests to strengthen its commercial feasibility study and to attract commercial co-funding for subsequent development. This would involve the design of a prototypical fish pen product for a sea or river deployment.
What are you hoping to achieve from ProtoAtlantic’s Fast Tracked Product Development: In addition to getting support on control and automation aspects of the system, the principle objective is to facilitate and support physical tests: 1. To demonstrate a “Proof of Concept” at tank scale: the general submergence principle as well as under dynamic environmental loading; 2. To gather direct load and motion data for the 2 baseline configurations, so that this data can be used to support concept design work and commercial feasibility assessments, and; 3. To gather data that allows direct comparison to numerical methods, in order to validate the numerical methods and the parameters that should be applied to give a good representation of physical behavior and give good confidence in the model validity for future design exercises for Net9-based commercial designs.
